A month since his death, and grieving fans are continuing to gather outside the Highgate home of George Michael.  In addition to leaving letters and tributes, several petitions to honour the singer have been launched and continue to gain momentum.

One local petition to erect a statue of him in front of his Highgate home recently reached a milestone of over 4,000 signatures. Other petitions to honour the ‘Careless Whisper’ artist include a posthumous parliamentary honour, a Brit Award nomination, and, most recently, a tribute bench on Hampstead Heath. The petition to award the artist a posthumous parliamentary honour is close to reaching 30,000 signatures. One of George Michael’s biggest fans, and the person who launched the petition for a commemorative bench, is Tony Antoniou. He told City News that he wanted City of London to put a bench in George’s favourite hangout in Hampstead Heath so that fans had somewhere to visit and think of him.

Petitions require 10,000 signatures for a government response so there’s hope for George Michael’s fans eager for the world to remember him. His life may have been tragically cut short, but it seems his fans’ love for him goes beyond the grave.
