Crime hotspots in the London borough could be among the first areas in the city to see drone surveillance cameras deployed by police, according to their commander, Catherine Roper.
According to Ms Roper, drone strategy is being run by central units at the Met, but she was less than impressed by ‘absolutely ridiculous Civil Aviation rules’ governing the technology’s use.
The Civil Aviation Authority responded with, “All we are concerned about is that they are being used safely, whether that’s the police, or even recreationally; safety is our priority.”
The locks in Camden may be the first place that police drones are used, because it is an area of high crime for the borough.
With government consultation on the benefits of drones in the UK, set to close in March, and drone technology being improved every day, Camden residents’ time to protest is running out.
