A 46 year old man from Hackney is the first person to receive a jail sentence for breaking and entering during this week’s anti-burglary campaign.

The campaign, named ‘Operation Bumblebee’, targets most wanted burglars in the area.

Hackney Metropolitan police told City News that the anti-burglary campaign will also be ‘offering key advice local people about staying safe in their homes.’

The campaign material highlights the 5,199 homes that were burgled in this way last year, and carries the reminder ‘Always lock before you leave’ while encouraging the public to visit crime prevention site more information and advice.

The campaign focuses on locking the front door as a simple step for members of the public to take, which could have a dramatic impact on burglary numbers.

Radio ads have been developed to interrupt people as they get ready to leave the house in the morning.

These ads will run across a number of radio stations, including Kiss, Capital and Heart, as well as community focussed stations such as Kismat and Buzz Asia.
