The new cyclists speed camera has been installed in London Fields in Hackney.

The council claims cyclists go too fast in an area shared by many other members of the public.
More people are being encouraged to commute by bike in order to help reduce pollution in London. It is hoped that monitoring devices, such as the speed camera, will make them more aware of their speed in public spaces.
This is not the first speed camera for cyclists. They have already been introduced in Hyde Park, where the flow of people is even bigger. However, it is the first cyclist speed camera in the borough of Hackney.
How does the new camera work?
The speed camera is similar to those for cars, but more friendly. If the cyclist moves at 12mph or less a green smiley face will appear. Anything faster and a red angry face will let the cyclist’s know they are going too fast.
The monitor is set both ways on the path from Broadway Market to Martello Terrace.
No one speeding will be fined but it will service as a reminder to cyclists of their speed, and that if they don’t respect those around them they can cause actual damage.
The neighbours and nearby residents were happy with the addition of the monitor.
