The Sekeford pub in Farringdon has had a successful first month pouring pints

Since 2001 a quarter of London’s pubs have shut their doors, so news of an opening in Farringdon has raised hopes and glasses.
The new pub had been hidden by scaffolding so after two years, locals were delighted to hear the pub was being refurbished rather than turning into flats. Due to the housing crisis in London, 1200 pubs over the last 15 years have closed in order to make way for accommodation.
Warren Janisch, acting pub manager, believes the Sekforde’s new look is appealing for customers.
The pub owner is keen for university students to work at the pub. He is hoping academic conversation will flow as Londoners enjoy a relaxing drink after their working days.
Janisch told City News that business has been good since they reopened earlier this month, although they have been quiet during the week due to Farringdon being a working rather than residential area. The pub is also open for events.
“The pub owner only likes to employ staff with a degree. He likes the staff to be intelligent, happy and always providing the best service. He wants it to be an intellectual pub.”
The owner encourages studying by giving five to ten people a year bursaries worth £10,000 to study at City, University of London.
