A handwritten card signed by Mr Corbyn was placed at the entrance of Westminster Tube station, along with a bunch of flowers.
The note said: “This should never have happened. As a country we must stop walking by. Rest in peace. Jeremy Corbyn.”
It is understood that members of Mr Corbyn’s team had known the man and had previously brought him food.
Westminster: A common site for rough sleepers
The man, who has yet to be formally identified, was found unresponsive at 7am this morning.
A Met Police spokeswoman said: “Police were called by the London Ambulance Service at 7.17am to reports of an unresponsive male in the underpass of Exit 3 of Westminster Underground Station.
“Officers and the London Ambulance Service attended.
“The man was pronounced dead at the scene at 7.33am.”
Speaking to passers by and MPs in Westminster today, it appears little was known about the man.
Some locals told City News they agreed Corbyn’s message: “As a country we must stop walking by.
“People do have a responsibility to stop walking by. But they don’t know what to do to help.”
Others said that “politicians are ultimately responsible or need to give guidance on what people can do.”
