Advance Together, a registered political party, has launched a petition on change.org to stop the eviction of Chelsea houseboat owners, which over 7,000 people have signed already.

He was ‘appalled’ that the Chelsea Yacht and Boat Company (CYBC) had terminating the mooring licences of residents.
Advance Together, a registered political party, has launched a petition on change.org, which over 7,000 people have signed already.
On their petition page, they express their wish to protect the river houseboats in Chelsea which are being threatened with eviction.
They point out that people have lived in Chelsea river houseboats since the 1930s and some of the current houseboat residents have now lived in their houseboats for over 50 years.
Advance Together believes that every single community in the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea need to be cherished and protected.
They hope to pressure the council into making the houseboat moorings an Asset of Community Value, highlighting their contribution to the local community.
Advance Together campaigners believe that CYBC are planning to replace the Chelsea Reach community with more expensive boats to gentrify the area.
But CYBC argue that the termination is about safety, not money.
They claim that the residents in question have failed to dry-dock their boats regularly to prove the safety of their vessels. Their licences stipulate this as a requirement of holding the licence.
Dry-docking is when the boat is removed from the water for a period of time and inspected in a dock to perform essential repairs and checks.
