An Algerian man has been sentenced to six months in prison under the Identity Documents Act, for using a fake ID and may face deportation.

Abid Akman, 24, from Algeria, had been working as a delivery driver prior to his arrest, and was using an ID suggesting his name was Mathew Inbert.

A judge at Southark Crown Court told the court that Abid Akman was in breach of section four under the Identity Documents Act and was to be sentenced to six months in prison without bail.

Initially, there was confusion surrounding the plea of Mr Akman.

He pleaded not guilty but after a conversation in the court with his lawyer Mr Ackman changed to guilty and the court proceedings resumed.

The court heard that Mr Akman had applied for UK citizenship in 2016 but had been denied entry.

It is not clear how long Abid Akman, who is of Algerian heritage, has been working in the United Kingdom.

The court heard that Abid Akman was living in southwest London, using his own moped for his delivery work.

Immigration proceedings have begun and Mr Akman now faces the risk of deportation.

The immigration service will take on Mr Akman’s case and asses his future in the United Kingdom in the new year.
