David Lammy MP recently also engaged in a twitter argument with comedian, Jim Davidson.

Comic Relief have stated that Tottenham MP David Lammy has turned down an offer to create a film with the charity in Africa.

The organisation have said that “the offer is still open”.

It comes after the Tottenham MP has criticised documentary maker Stacey Dooley’s Comic Relief trip to Uganda.

The Labour politician accused her of perpetuating “unhelpful stereotypes” and showing a “colonial era mentality.”

He said that Instagram posts of local women dancing and children hugging her show a distorted view of Africa.

“We’ve got to change the formula of sending mostly white celebrities to Africa,” Lammy argued.

Stacey Dooley responded to his comments stating, “if the issue is that I’m white, you could always go.”

She continued, “I saw projects that were saving lives with the money.”

Comic relief made no apologies, stating that Dooley was “helping people tell their own stories in their own words.”

However, this is not the first time that Comic Relief has been criticised on this issue.

In 2018, the charity was accused of using “poverty porn” in its charity appeals.
