Firefighters were working through the night to tackle a blaze above an Islington pub.
Emergency services were called to a fire within houses above the Scottish Stores pub on Caledonian road.
The fire brigade were first called at 11:30pm on Wednesday night.
They say the fire was under control by 04:37 this morning. Twenty-eight people evacuated the building before the Fire Brigade arrived.
“Crews remain on scene damping down”
Station Manager Jay Tough, who was at the scene, said: “Crews worked hard through the night to bring the fire under control.”
He warned: “there were local road closures in place, and while all roads have now reopened, as it gets into the morning rush hour it will be busy and congested in the area as crews remain on scene damping down.”
Parts of the first floor of the Islington building were damaged by the fire. Ash and mess can be seen on the inside of the pub in the aftermath.
The properties either side of the Scottish Stores Pub remain closed.

Loss of business
City News spoke to staff at the neighbouring takeaway. Their staff looked after residents and people evacuated from the building.
They gave them food and support whilst 70 Fire Fighters from across London the Fire Brigade dealt with the fire.
Another local shop owner described how the blaze had scared tourists. He said the incident caused a loss of business for himself over the night before.
