An American tourist has thanked police and doctors for saving his life after he “flatlined twice” during the London Bridge terror attack.
As the inquest continues at the Old Bailey, Robert Piersant revealed he had been to dinner with his son and his wife. He was then stabbed in the back, head and face.
He and his wife were amongst those who were injured when three attackers launched a van and a knife attack near Borough Market.
Khuram Butt, 27, Rachid Redouane, 30, and Youssef Zaghba, 22 killed eight people during the evening of June 3 2017.
In a tribute to those who helped him, Mr Piersant singled out a Metropolitan Police officer. Ge said: “I would like to say that I’m very grateful for the state of the police departments and their assistance, and especially PC Sam Philpot, who never left my side.
“The doctors did great things putting me back together, but if it wasn’t for that PC I would not have got to the hospital.”

Mrs Joyce Piersant said she saw her husband face down and there was blood everywhere. She noticed she was bleeding but was thinking about her husband. “I thought he was dead.”
Mr Piersant told the hearing how he remembers not having a pulse.
He said, “I remember that very vividly, just like you hear on TV. I didn’t have a pulse, I didn’t have breaths. I recall flatlining twice.”
Chef Juan Clavijo-Largo who was working in a nearby restaurant also gave a statement today. He told the inquest that he saw a terrorist walk calmly past the window. He was wearing a suicide vest and carrying a bloodied knife.
Xavier Thomas, 45, Christine Archibald, 30, Sara Zelenak, 21, Sebastien Belanger, 36, James McMullan, 32, Kirsty Boden, 28, Alexandre Pigeard, 26, and Ignacio Echeverria, 39, were all killed in the attack.
The inquest at the Old Bailey is ongoing.
