City News has received exclusive new footage of the evacuation of commuters from the Jubilee line.
Dozens of Tube commuters were earlier evacuated through a tunnel amid reports of smoke on a train.
Paul Willis, speaking exclusively to City News said:
‘Around 5.45 (I believe) the train (jubilee line, in between Bond St and heading to Baker St) stopped abruptly with what sounded like an electrical bang.
‘The emergency lights came on and soon after a haze of smoke emerged. There was a strong electrical burning smell. We were informed by the driver that there was an electrical fault and that we were waiting for the Emergency services to evacuate us.
‘Some passengers were having panic attacks but were consoled by the driver and other passengers. Eventually around 6.45 the evacuation began with the fire brigade, police medic and TFL staff helping us off the train and onto the track.
‘We walked in single file for about 10 mins to the Bond st. Platform where we were greeted by police, ambulance staff, fire brigade and TFL staff asking if we were ok and giving us water. The station was closed and we were guided to the exit.’
Fifty-nine passengers were escorted off the service after it stopped between Bond Street and Baker Street stations.
Four people were treated at the scene for smoke inhalation, but were not taken to hospital.
The jubilee have tweeted updates throughout the day:
⚠️ Service disruption update
⚠️ ???? – We’re now running with minor delay between Willesden Green and Stanmore due to an earlier track fault at Bond Street. We're sorry for the disruption, & we'll keep you updated of any changes.
Firefighters said a mechanical failure may have caused the smoke. Police say there was no fire onboard.
The Jubilee Line shut between Finchley Road and Waterloo throughout rush hour.
Four crews of firefighters – from Soho, Paddington and North Kensington fire stations – attended the fire after a call at 05:54 BST and left at 07:18.
TfL initially said the Jubilee Line disruption was being caused by a “track fault at Bond Street”.
London Ambulance Service say “a number of resources” were sent to Bond Street station including a specialist hazardous area response team.
He added: “no patients were taken to hospital”.
The Jubilee Line is now back open with a regular service.
