Pooches and their owners from all over London gathering in costume to raise awareness of dog adoption and rehoming in London.
The event was organised by the All Dogs Matter charity, which aims to transform the lives of unwanted and abandoned dogs. They provide life saving care as well as fostering and adoption programmes.
Many of the dogs taking part in the show were succesfully rehomed by the charity. Organisers say that events like this are vital in increasing people’s awareness of the size of the problem.
Poor Statistics
London is the worst affected area for dog abandonment in the UK. And last year the rate hit an 11-year high. Charities like All Dogs Matter are over stretched and struggling to meet the demand.
“Dog ownership is at the highest its ever been since records began ,record centres in London are at their most full. Events like this so promote that rescue is a great breed of dog to own,” Charity representative Anna Webb told City News.
“It’s a great day out and it spreads the word about dog adoption and rehoming. I don’t have rescue dogs but I’d love to foster at some point,” Jane Elson who attended the event told City News.
