The French celebration of Muguet day roots back to 1560 where King Charles IX was given a bouquet of lily of the valleys for good luck.

London flower shops are celebrating the day where French people gift flowers to their loved ones.

Florist at Angel Flowers, John spoke to City News about the difficulty of getting lily of the valley in present day:

“Brexit obviously wasn’t great. We also have this energy crisis where all those flowers are heated with gas, so most of the flowers come from Holland. After this big crisis, they had to close some production house.”

Although a marked event in France, the celebrations are limited in London as Marco, Angel Flowers owner, told us:

“I don’t want to promote it because it’s difficult to get hold of in London. I’m happy with the regulars, the French, the Belgian. They all will come on Wednesday Thursday and will buy them”

When asking a French deli owner who is based on a parallel street to the florist, he said he cannot find any lily of the valleys anywhere in London…

“I don’t know what to do to be honest, I can’t find any flowers in London so I don’t know what to do with it.”

Despite this hidden celebration, Londoners are keen on this tradition. The idea of finding a specific flower to someone you love is a nice idea.
