Chelsea versus Barcelona: Tuesday 25th November 20:00hrs

When one thinks of Chelsea versus Barcelona, it is next to impossible to decide on which track to select in your jukebox of memories.

2012 produced “Torres through on goal…” and noises from Gary Neville, which I dare not attempt to put in print… Before that, 2009 produced a Michael Essien volley, arguably one of history’s greatest shirt-off celebrations, and ultimately one of football’s most debated games (“IT’S A DISGRACE!”).

Therefore, it is no surprise that as the teams prepare to battle at ‘The Bridge’ tonight, fans twitch at their office desks as they stare desperately waiting for the clock to hit 8PM.

Tonight may offer the chance for two of the most talked about teenagers in football to samba in South-West London, although Yamal may opt for a Flamenco instead.

Pre-match focus is no longer on Messi, Zola or Xavi; tonight is a chance for the spotlight to fall once again on some of Europe’s most exciting new talents: Estevao or Yamal.

Lamine Yamal, much like Lionel Messi, is a product of the magical La Masia academy and has dominated the Spanish and international stage since becoming Barcelona’s youngest debutant at 15 years and 291 days old in 2023.

Yamal has accumulated over thirty goals for Barcelona, already achieved runner-up in the Ballon d’Or in 2024, and is the youngest player ever to win the Euros (2024).

It is safe to say Yamal is established at the highest level, but can this be said for “Messinho” (“little Messi”)… Estevao is an unbelievable talent, and his performances so far at Chelsea have impressed; however, he has not yet experienced or shone at the levels Yamal has.

Arsenal versus Bayern Munich: Wednesday 26th November 20:00hrs

Arsenal ran riot on Sunday, flatpacking Spurs back to Haringey in an express delivery marked 4-1, though will former Tottenham titan Harry Kane have something to say about this on his return tomorrow night?

Kane has 19 goals in all competitions so far, 5 coming in the UEFA Champions League and will look to continue this form tomorrow night. The German Giants, like Arsenal, are unbeaten in the Champions League this season but tomorrow will have to perform without the help of former Liverpool attacker Luis Diaz after his red card versus PSG earned him a three match ban.

Both teams sit at the top of their respective tables and are on equal form in the Champions League – Bayern holding top spot for now due to their superior goal difference.

If injury absentees were playing on Arteta and his men’s mind, they did not show it at the weekend and they seem hungry for tomorrow’s European clash. Eberechi Eze will be flying high off his hattrick but it is Trossard’s renaissance that seems to be lighting up Arsenal’s attack with Noni Madueke and Gabriel Martinelli being away with injury.

Tonight provides a chance for the Gunners to silence any doubters as they come up against their toughest test in Europe so far which also happens to be a side they have not won against since 2015.
