Russian President Vladimir Putin will not attend peace talks in Turkey, a Kremlin spokesperson has confirmed.
Russian spokesman Dmitry Peskov has confirmed that Putin is not going to attend the peace talks in Turkey today.
After disembarking the plane in Ankara, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky gave a short speech. Regarding the Russian delegation, he commented:
“Officially, I’m not aware of the Russian’s level [of representation]. But from what we’ve seen they look like stand-in props.
Zelensky challenged Putin to meet him in Turkey, previously stating he would only attend if Putin were present.

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova announced that the talks in Istanbul have been rescheduled for this afternoon “at Turkey’s initiative.”
US President Donald Trump had previously said he might travel to Turkey on Friday if peace talks make progress today.
In response to a question about Putin, Trump says:
“Why would he go if I’m not going? Because I wasn’t going to go. I wasn’t planning to. I would go, but I wasn’t planning to go. And I said, I don’t think he’s going to go if I don’t go. And that turned out to be right, but we have people there.”
The US has sent Marco Rubio, Secretary of State, to the peace talks.
However, Trump has offered to head to Turkey on Friday and join Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky if “it is appropriate”.
