The chairman of Olympic Stadium operators the London Legacy Development Corporation has resigned amid the row over the escalating cost of converting the venue into a West Ham United’s home ground.
David Edmonds stepped down today, only two days after London mayor Sadiq Khan ordered a detailed investigation into the cost of the stadium, which has risen from £272m to £323m.
This has happened largely because the contractors tasked with converting the stadium have gone bust. The cost has risen to 8m a year, from an original estimated three hundred thousand.
The tax payer has to pick up the bill for this all the while West Ham united are pay 2.5 million a year for the rent to play their games there. The stadium has already been shrouded in controversy with issues of fan violence.
