An Islington short film with over two million views online is vying for a top football award.
‘Drawn Out’ is one man’s story about staying away from London’s gang scene while trying to raise his younger brother.
Made in association with Arsenal FC, the film’s nominated for Community Project of the Year at the London Football Awards.
The film, which was also made by Fully Focused productions and Ambitious Academy, has over two million views on YouTube.
Most of the film’s cast and crew had never worked on a film before.
Furthermore, many of them live on the film’s main location, Islington’s Elthorne Estate in Archway.
Sense of achievement
Drawn Out has attracted praise for highlighting the “reality rather than the sensationalism” of London’s gang culture.
Jack Ironside, community development manager for Arsenal FC and a co-producer of Drawn Out spoke to City News.
He praises the opportunity the film’s given young Londoners.
“To actually commit to something for 18 months and commit on a weekly basis and to have it recognised – to have that sense of achievement is really powerful for some of these guys.
“No matter what happens they’ve done well. I know [the awards] will go well and we’re proud of them whatever happens,” continued Ironside.
