Tottenham Hotspur’s new stadium has been chosen to host one of the games in Rugby League’s Ashes series next year.
The three-match series, which will be fought out between England and Australia, will have its final showdown on 14th November at the 62,000 seat ground, which officially opened in April of this year.
The two earlier matches in the series will take place at the University of Bolton Stadium on 31 October and Leeds United’s Elland Road stadium seven days later.
Rugby League’s Challenge Cup final was played at Wembley this season, however this will represent the very first time that the Tottenham Hotspur stadium has hosted a game in the sport.
A spokesperson for local team London Broncos said today that this was ‘a fantastic coup for Rugby League down South’, and that it provides a ‘focal point for the World Cup in England in 2021.’
As well as hosting home games for Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur, the North London Stadium has also held a series of NFL matches since opening.
