London’s Joe Salisbury is just one step away from becoming the capital’s first player to win a Grand Slam after he reached the Australian Open Doubles Final.
Salisbury and his American partner Rajeev Ram defeated Kazakh duo Alexander Bublik and Mikhail Kukushkin (4-6 6-3 6-4) in a thrilling three set duel.
The 11th seeds have been on superb form throughout the competition, with the set dropped in last night’s semi-final their only one of the entire tournament so far.
Salisbury, 27, said: “It’s my first grand slam final, I am really excited.
“It’s something I have always dreamed about doing,
“It’s the pinnacle of our sport. It would be unbelievable. That’s the goal of everything we are doing.”
In Sunday’s final, Salisbury and Ram will face home favourites in the form of Australian wild cards Max Purcell and Luke Saville.
