French’s Theatre Bookshop will close in April. The historic bookshop is to close its doors due to an “unsustainable rental increase” of up to 300% over the past five years.
The flagship shop for theatre publisher and licensing company Samuel French has been in the capital since 1830, moving to its current location on Fitzroy Street in 1983.
During its illustrious history the bookshop has sold scripts to starts of the London stage. There has an outcry online about the closure and celebrities like Sir Derek Jacobi and Rupert Wolf have spoken out.
