Bambi’s famous political piece has been painted over.
Street Artist Bambi says she asked shop, Etre Cecile, to reconsider covering up her piece to protect it .
She asked to be informed of any intention to paint over the piece but claims she was not contacted.
Artist “very upset”:
Bambi has previously sold artwork to actor Brad Pitt for £60,000.
She told City News:
‘[The owner] obviously went ahead regardless of my advice and disregarded the feelings of the local residents.’
‘I suggested that it shouldn’t be painted out as this was a popular piece that went viral and had become a sort of tourist attraction for lovers of ‘street art’
Islington council has previously protected street art by artist such as Banksy by covering them in Perspex .
However, Bambi says the risk of art being destroyed is ‘part and parcel’ of painting the streets.
Local Shop Owners ‘disappointed’:
Local shop owners said they were disappointed at the removal of ‘Lie Lie Land’ as it drew tourists and art lovers to the area, boosting business.
The owners of Etre Cecile told residents they had arranged with Bambi for the piece to be covered and that they have commissioned her to do a new piece.
Bambi strongly denies this and accused the owners of panicking and ‘misleading’ residents.
Etre Cecile have declined to comment. Bambi promises a reaction to the removal of the political piece, but just not on their wall.
