£26.8 million is being spent to restore the East Wing of Alexandra Palace, which includes its Victorian theatre.
The theatre itself has been closed to the public for 80 years.
The campaign hopes high-profile support from Doctor Foster star Suranne Jones will help raise the last £1 million needed to complete the restoration.
While there appears to be widespread support, a number of residents in the surrounding areas are not as impressed by the council’s contribution of £6.8 million.
Some residents believe the money could be more beneficial to other local issues, whilst the group ‘Friends of the Alexandra Palace Theatre’ see the restoration of the theatre as providing a new cultural space for entertainment and education.
