Hackney Picturehouse will tonight host the UK premiere of My Name is Adil.

Screened as part of the cinema’s ongoing series, ‘Why I’m Here: Stories of Migration’, the film is the story of a child migrant who followed his father to Italy from Morocco. Director Adil Azzab has created the film based on his own experiences as child.

Filmed in rural Morocco and Milan and using non-professional actors, the film explores the cultural and economic impact of migration.

As the UK has just accepted a large number of unaccompanied minors from the ‘Jungle’, the now-demolished refugee camp in Calais, the film is particularly poignant.

Following the UK premiere of his directorial debut, the star of the film, Adil Azzab will host a Q&A at the cinema.
