The singer known for hit songs ‘9 Million Bicycles’ and ‘The Flood’ said her cover is a fitting tribute to the late Sir Terry Wogan who died last year.
Melua said “I hope it goes on to make a real and lasting difference to the lives of disadvantaged children across the UK.”
‘Fields of Gold’ was originally written by Sting, but Melua’s version is inspired by the Eva Cassidy cover which was championed by Sir Terry on his Breakfast Show.
The song will be available as a charity single from 3rd November with Melua debuting Fields of Gold live on Children in Need’s Appeal Show on Friday 17 November, on BBC One.
All profits will go to Children In Need, with a minimum of 54p from each single sale heading to the charity.
