Today London Fashion Week 2019 swings into action and all eyes are on the capital. And yet, sustainability this year is the hottest look on the catwalk.
City News visited Lone Design Club, in the heart of stylish Soho, a pop-up fringe concept store that lets you get up-close and personal to some of the best ethically-focused independent labels around.
We discovered unique and one-of-a-kind products and met the designers behind the brands.
Jessica Kruger designs vegan-leather handbags that are as stylish as they are ethical. She told City News:
“London is always at the forefront of trends, whether that’s caring about what we put in our bodies, on our skin or what we wear.
“My products are aimed at young women who are environmentally and ethically conscious. This sparkly silver bag looks fabulous and is made out of pineapple leaves – I think that’s pretty exciting!”
Another designer, Valentina Karellas, uses surplus yarn from clothing factories to embellish her one-of-a-kind knitwear pieces. She says she was motivated to create a responsible brand after working in the fast fashion industry.
“There’s lots of stuff that goes on there that we don’t know about – the dark side of fashion. When I first finished fashion school I was just desperate for a job, but I swore that once I had my own brand I’d be committed to sustainability.”
London Fashion Week will run from 14th – 19th February at 180 Strand and will turn our city into the fashion capital of the world; hosting names such as, Ashley Williams, Victoria Beckham and Margaret Howell.
