Jeremy Kyle says that he is ”utterly devastated” by the axing of his show following the death of a guest.
ITV suspended the Jeremy Kyle show indefinitely on Monday. This follows the death of Steve Dymond who died a week after he was filmed for the programme.
Mr. Kyle said: “Myself and the production team I worked with for the last 14 years are all utterly devastated by the recent events.”
“Our thoughts and sympathies are with Steve’s family at this incredibly sad time.”
ITV chief executive Dame Carolyn McCall announced on Wednesday morning that bosses had officially cancelled the show “given the gravity of recent events”.
Dame McCall said: “The Jeremy Kyle Show has had a loyal audience and has been made by a dedicated production team for 14 years, but now is the right time for the show to end.
“Everyone at ITV’s thoughts and sympathies are with the family and friends of Steve Dymond.”
ITV has said it will continue to work with Mr. Kyle but has not specified the capacity their collaboration will take.
Following the announcement of the show’s cancellation, Mr. Kyle set up the private media company Hales Media Ltd with his fiancee Victoria Burton.
