Twenty-five years after winning the Palme d’Or, Quentin Tarantino returns to Cannes with his new Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.
It stars famous faces Leonardo Di Caprio, Brad Pitt and Margot Robbie.
Dozens of fans queued outside the red carpet at the premiere of the Cannes Film Festival’s most expected film.
Mr Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, looks at the Hollywood business in the late 1960s.
It tells the stories of Sharon Tate, played by Margot Robbie, and the Manson family. Leonardo di Caprio plays a TV star at the end of his career, always followed by his stuntman and assistant, played by Brad Pitt.
Al Pacino and the late Luke Perry, in his final appearance on the big screen, also feature.
Standing Ovation
The film received the longest standing ovation of this year’s festival. For six minutes, the audience applauded the latest work of the maverick director.
Earlier, during the premiere, superstars Leonardo di Caprio, Brad Pitt and Margot Robbie signed autographs and posed for selfies with screaming fans on the red carpet.
Tarantino received 6 minutes of applause after the screening of his latest film.
Mr Tarantino’s latest effort almost didn’t make it to the festival at all. It did not appear in the Cannes official selection announcement earlier this year due to production delays. But after a last-minute rush, Cannes director Thierry Fremaux announced the film was in the lineup.
Before the screening, Tarantino addressed the audience inside the theatre with the sentence ‘J’aime le cinema’ (I love Cinema), as One Upon a Time in Hollywood could be the last work for the director before his retirement.
Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, does not behave the way we might expect from Tarantino. There is none of the usual jumping in time but do expect some violence.
Once Upon a Time in Hollywood debuts in UK theatres on 14th August.
