The Tate Modern is welcoming families this summer.
SHARE:
From July 24 to August 29, everyone is invited to turn the floor of Tate Modern’s huge Turbine Hall into a work of art.
The ‘Mega Please Draw Freely’ initiative is part the Uniqlo Tate Play, a new branch for the gallery. It is a free programme of art-inspired activities for families.
The floor of the gallery will have a temporary coating, so that the expensive flooring isn’t permanently destroyed.
The project is the brainchild of artist Ei Arakawa. He was inspired by the radical post-war Japanese artistic group Gutai, wanted to effect social change through painting, performance and children’s games.
Visitors will scribble and doodle to their hearts desire on the Turbine Hall floor using art materials provided by the gallery.
Further free workshops and creative materials will be on offer to children during term time.
