Chelsea’s Eduoard Mendy has complained about media outlets using his images to illustrate news reports about Manchester City’s Benjamin Mendy, who has been accused of rape and sexual assault.

Manchester City’s Benjamin Mendy was charged with six counts of rape and one of sexual assault in August. His lawyer said the player has denied the allegations, although he has not yet formally entered a plea.

Images of  Real Madrid’s Ferland Mendy, the cousin of Eduoard,  were also used incorrectly by media outlets.

On Instagram, Edouard Mendy shared multiple screenshots of his face used to illustrate articles on the City player.

He wrote “sad to see that in 2021, in France as well as in England, for some, black people have neither names nor distinct faces.”

“These “mistakes” of photos appear anecdotal, but actually they are quite the opposite, they are highly symbolic.”

“It’s not that complicated to differentiate two faces, especially when the football jersey is of valuable help.”
