The Elizabeth Line opened fully in May 2022

More Elizabeth Line trains were cancelled between July and September than in any other quarter since the line opened fully.

Around 5.2% of the planned trains didn’t run, compared to 1.8% when the Line first opened in 2022 and 3.7% between April and June 2023.

It means around 4,700 of the Elizabeth Line trains were cancelled between July and September this year.

Figures from the Office of Rail and Road show 44.3% of Elizabeth Line cancellations were caused by the operator, whilst 55.7% were caused by Network Rail.

The Office says the Elizabeth Line was the rail service where reliability declined most in the period.

Meanwhile, of around 4,000 London Overground services, 3%, were cancelled between July and September.

On the Heathrow Express, 3.5% of trains were cancelled during the period, around 465 services.

Across England, Scotland and Wales, 3.5% of 1,752,440 planned rail services including the Elizabeth Line and London Overground were cancelled between July and September.

The number of cancellations in Great Britain during the period was around 61,330.
