Ryan Gosling is the latest Hollywood star to settle down in Hampstead as part of what some are calling the ‘Donald Dash’.
Gosling is not the first A-Lister to draw the attention of swooning mothers at the school gates; he joins a long list including Harry Styles, Jude Law, and Dua Lipa.
Real estate expert Michael McHale acknowledged the draw of the area, saying “film stars or music (stars) want to be here… it’s fashionable”.
Walking through one of Michael’s properties on the market, one can take in the scale, grandeur, and finish that clients appreciate when looking to pay upwards of £6.5 million.

Michael said buyers appreciated the creative and cultural history of the area: “It is more than bricks and mortar, there’s a history… Richard Burton used to live here, Elizabeth Taylor – they were the Brad and Angelina of their day”.
Hampstead’s connection to the arts dates even further back than the 60’s, with romantic poet John Keats describing Hampstead as an area that offered the “fair and open face of heaven”.
Post-Covid, the thirst for nature and fresh air is still unquenchable for many, so perhaps it is Hampstead’s historic heath that draws so many celebrities in.
They can enjoy 800 acres of woodland and parkland, allowing them to experience a countryside feel, while still being only 20 minutes from Central London.

Social media has coined the phrase ‘Donald Dash’ to describe the wealthy and famous fleeing America due to Trump’s presidency and fears over socio-political turbulence.
Michael revealed: “There’s definitely been a definite uptick in American interest in the area, there is no doubt about it”.
Home Office statistics also support the ‘Donald Dash’, with over 6,100 Americans applying for British citizenship in 2024 – the most since records began two decades ago.
Michael speculates there may be a safety in numbers mentality amongst residents: “They come in and experience how great living here is.
For the more famous people in the area… they don’t stick out like a sore thumb”, he adds.
