PC Tim Andrews describes how he called for armed assistance after seeing three men walking towards the public with knives.
Mr Andrews was a plain clothes police officer on the scene when the attack broke out near borough market two years ago.
One of the attackers was two to three yards of him when armed police arrived and shouted, “shoot him, shoot him” at the officer, who opened fire.
Once the attacker was on the ground, PC Andrews recalls how handcuffing him. The court heard he was groaning with his hands clenched across his chest, his eyes rolling from side to side.
PC Andrews told the armed officer the attacker was weating a suicide belt, leading to the area’s evacuation.
Simon Edwards also gave testimony at the hearing. Mr Edwards was at Wheatsheaf pub with his partner and two friends. Describing scenes of panic on the street, he says the three men stood out for their calmness.
Mr Edwards describes seeing the man in the street being stabbed in the torso at least five times. The attacker in the Arsenal shirt came back to the window where Mr Edwards was stood and tried to enter the pub, using his knife to break the windows.
Mr Edwards describes noticing the man was wearing a belt with silver cans attached to it, believing it to be a bomb a bomb. Shortly afterwards police arrived at the scene. He heard a volley of bullets and dropped to the floor.
After hearing PC Andrews’s statement the judge thanked the officer for his actions on the nights of the 3rd June 2017.
