Muslim women are among those who have endured the worst abuse.

Jeremy Corbyn is urging the British government to do more to tackle Islamophobia on our streets.

Speaking exclusively to City News, the Labour leader said:

“If we don’t identify Islamophobia as a form of racism, then we are obviously creating problems for Muslim people and for the way in which many of our Mosques have been daubed and attacked.”

Mr Corbyn went on to single out Muslim women as among those who endure the worst abuse.

“The abuse of any faith or any ethnic group is simply unacceptable.

“I urge the current British government to act on it quickly.”

The Government rejects adopting the definition, saying it interferes with free speech.

The definition, produced by the All Party-Parliamentary Group, was adopted by the Labour Party in March of this year.

The 72 page document states what is classified as Islamophobic treatment or behaviour. It outlines the steps that should be taken to tackle it.

Mr Corbyn added: “Labour has adopted the definition of Islamophobia because we want to live a society in a free from racism.”
