Arsenal winger Bukayo Saka says he feels “at home” in the England squad after scoring his first international goal last night.
The 19-year-old started in England’s first international friendly of the year versus Austria at the Riverside Stadium in Middlesbrough. It was his fifth appearance for the national side.
Gareth Southgate confirmed the winger in England’s 26-man squad for Euro 2020 on Tuesday.
This comes after an impressive season with Arsenal, where the teenager scored five goals and contributed nine assists in all competitions.
Saka is the only Arsenal player to be selected in the squad. He will travel with Chelsea’s Mason Mount, Ben Chilwell and Reece James in a side that will be captained by Tottenham’s Harry Kane.
‘Things are much easier and I feel more at home when I come to camp’
Speaking after the win, Saka admitted he was nervous about starting, but now feels at home amongst the team.
“Now I’ve met the lads, I am more familiar with them. I feel more at home when I come to camp.
“The feeling of being selected for the Euros is already just amazing and then now to get my first goal is even better.
“There’s just so many good things coming my way and I have to thank God for the blessings.”
‘I feel like I can learn a bit from everyone’
Saka is one of two teenagers in Southgate’s squad alongside 17-year-old Jude Bellingham.
“That’s what we try to do with every opportunity we get to show the manager that we can play – I hope me and Jude did that,” Saka said.
“There’s so much experience I can take from everyone. I try to speak to everyone and get some advice from them.”
When do England play next?
England’s final warm-up match before Euro 2021 takes place at the Riverside Stadium in Middlesbrough. The Three-Lions take on Romania in an international friendly that starts at 17:00 BST.
