De Underground Records produced hardcore, jungle and drum and bass music.

Influential Newham record store De Underground  has been recognised for its contribution to music with a blue heritage plaque.

Popular industry figures including Mike De Underground and Cool Hand Flex owned the store.

The London Borough of Newham Heritage Project acknowledged the store’s contributions. They said it was “instrumental in the development of UK hardcore, jungle and drum & bass music.”

The store’s recognition was part of Newham heritage month, which took place during May.

De Underground records operated as a recording studio and record shop throughout the nineties.

Local group Rendezvous Projects conducted interviews with 18 people closely associated with De Underground.

The group has released an hour-long podcast online. The episode contains tracks produced at the studio, as well as stories from the people who ran the record shop.

Additionally, QR codes were on display around Newham throughout the month, containing six short audio sections about De Underground.

Record Store Day, which recognises the importance of the UK’s record stores, takes place in June and July.
