Bruce Springsteen will be joining the likes of Sir Elton John, Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber, and Kate Bush as he collects his award.
The Beatles singer Sir Paul McCartney presented his friend with the accolade. He joked “like Bruce’s concerts, I’m going to keep this brief”.
Sir Paul previously won the same award 20 years ago. He said he “couldn’t think of a more fitting recipient except maybe Bob Dylan, or Paul Simon, or Billy Joel, or Beyoncé, or Taylor Swift. The list goes on.”
“He’s known as the American working man but he admits he’s never worked a day in his life.”
After taking to the stage, Mr Springsteen hugged the Beatles star and thanked his “extraordinary” fans for supporting him. He later performed an acoustic version of Thunder Road.
The Ivor Novello awards are named after the popular Welsh actor, singer and composer who rose to fame in the early the 20th century. Presented since 1956, the Ivor awards celebrate songwriters and screen composers.
Bruce Springsteen will be returning to London this summer to perform for crowds at Wembley stadium on his world tour.
