Claims of ‘special treatment’ are circulating as UN human rights inspectors visit Julian Assnage. The visit was to ensure that Mr Assange is treated fairly whilst serving his sentence.
He is currently being held in Belmarsh Prison in Thamesmead South-East London. Mr Assange is serving a 50-week sentence for jumping bail.
The comments came as it is understood the inspectors were given access to Mr Assange without the presence of prison staff.
Julain Assange has taken asylum in the Ecuadorian Embassy in Knightsbridge, London since 2012. He was expelled by Ecuador’s president, Lenín Moreno, who was sworn in earlier this year.
The United States Government wants to try Mr Assange for cyber security breaches. He allegedly assisted Chelsea Manning in illegally accessing hundreds of thousands of secret documents.
These include logs from the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, both of which were then published by Mr Assange’s website, WikiLeaks.
Meanwhile, the Swedish Government wants Mr Assange to appear in court over rape allegations.
